A Senior Student Testimonial

"Hi Scholars Family, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the support you've given me over the past year. Math was such a tough subject for me, and I was really struggling with my high school math classes. But with your guidance, patience, and all those extra classes, I was able to catch up and build my confidence. I'm excited to share that I've moved into a regular math class this year, and things are going really well so far! I couldn't have done it without your encouragement and help.

You've made such a big difference in how I see math (and myself), and I'm so grateful for everything you've done.  Thank you again for being amazing tutors!" - SAVB

Our Theroy of Change

According to the research collected during our need assessment, children in Bermuda have experienced significant learning losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students living in low-income households are particularly affected, with many falling behind 5-6 months in their English and math studies.

Additionally, less than 30% of students with learning and thinking differences have a formal support plan at school. Without the right support, these children can face academic challenges (repeating a grade, school discipline, dropping out ) that may lead to long-term negative outcomes (justice involvement, not finishing college, and unemployment).

We aim to address this issue by providing quality educational support to children in need and fostering greater access to practices that reduce achievement attainment gaps.

Our Programs

Scholars Education of Bermuda

Scholars Bermuda  Our Learning Center offers K-12 tutoring programs.  Our programs cater to students of all ages, grades, skill levels, and abilities, offering customized support in reading, writing, math, study skills, and STEM programs.

We also provide diagnostic educational assessments and work closely with schools, teachers, and parents to ensure each student's academic success.

Our proprietary curriculum is the cornerstone of Scholars’ programs—and why they work so well! It has been developed, maintained, and improved over the years by certified teachers and educational experts to ensure that it follows the modern curricula and a methodology that ensures success for every student.

What makes Scholars’ curriculum unique is our approach to learning—we know that students want to experience success and continue to progress and learn new concepts, but we also know that they need repetition to reinforce and help retain concepts they’ve learned. Expected student outcomes include: i) Improved academic skills,  ii) Improved academic mindset, and  iv) Improved self-esteem.

The YMCA Alternative Suspension

The YMCA Alternative Suspension program is for youth aged 12 to 17 who have been or are at risk of being suspended from school due to problematic behaviour.

This program aims to reduce future suspensions and disciplinary sanctions by offering participants an opportunity to turn their time away from school into a positive experience that fosters personal growth and autonomy through:

  • A safe and welcoming environment;
  • The development of self-esteem and social skills;
  • Encouraging self-respect and respect for others.

Program youth workers are specically trained to support participants in gaining self-awareness and increasing their engagement towards school.  The three steps of the program are:

  1. Cool down  -  Students find themselves in a new and structured environment, putting a stop to the downward spiral.
  2. Reflection - The program encourages students to reflect during one-on-one meetings and group workshops.
  3. Commitment - Students are motivated to make changes that will have a positive impact on their school experience

'FRIST LEGO League of Bermuda’ - (Pilot Program)

The FIRST LEGO League (FLL) introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16 through fun, exciting hands-on learning. A Parent Testimonal

"As a grandparent, I’m so grateful for the support my grandchildren receive from Scholars Bermuda and your management team (Peak Potential).  Allowing them to come in three times a week after school for help with their homework has been such a blessing to our family. It gives us peace of mind knowing that they are spending their time productively, staying on top of their schoolwork, and building good habits.

The care and dedication of your team truly make a difference in their academic journey, and we deeply appreciate all you do!" – J Smith (Grandmother of EO & ER)
